Turkish Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu said Türkiye aims to generate $50 billion in health exports within the next 10 years, highlighting domestic medical technology, manufacturing, and innovation as key drivers of long-term growth.

Health exports are at the center of Türkiye’s long-term healthcare strategy, according to Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu. Speaking at the signing ceremony for a domestically developed Color Doppler Ultrasound Device Project, the minister said the country has the infrastructure, workforce, and industrial capacity needed to achieve $50 billion in health exports over the next decade through increased investment in medical technologies and local manufacturing.

Turkish Health Minister Prof. Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu announced an ambitious goal of reaching $50 billion in health exports within the next decade, positioning healthcare manufacturing and medical technologies as strategic growth sectors for the country’s economy.

Speaking at the signing ceremony for the Color Doppler Ultrasound Device Development Project in Ankara, Memişoğlu said Türkiye has entered a new phase in strengthening its domestic healthcare industry and expanding its international competitiveness.

“Our goal is to achieve $50 billion in exports within 10 years, and we are confident that we can accomplish it,” the minister said.

He emphasized that Türkiye’s modern healthcare infrastructure, skilled workforce, and strong political commitment provide a solid foundation for expanding the country’s role in the global healthcare industry. Increasing domestic production of medical devices and health technologies, he added, is a key pillar of that strategy.

The Color Doppler ultrasound project represents one of the government’s efforts to reduce dependence on imported medical technologies while boosting high-value manufacturing. Officials expect the initiative to contribute not only to technological self-sufficiency but also to Türkiye’s export potential in healthcare products.

The announcement aligns with the Ministry of Health’s broader “Producing Health” (Üreten Sağlık) vision, which aims to strengthen local capabilities in medical devices, biotechnology, and healthcare innovation while improving Türkiye’s position in international healthcare markets.

    Why It Matters

The health exports target signals Türkiye’s intention to move beyond healthcare service delivery and become a larger global supplier of high-value medical technologies and healthcare products. Achieving this objective would require sustained investment in research and development, advanced manufacturing, and international market expansion, potentially strengthening the country’s position in the global health economy.
